Who Can Marry Under the Special Marriage Act?
Any couple can marry under this Act if:

- Both partners are not within prohibited blood relationships (as defined by the Act)
- They are willing to marry of their own free will
Procedure for Marriage Under Special Marriage Act
1️⃣ Filing Notice of Intended Marriage
The couple must submit a written notice at their local Marriage Registrar Office.
2️⃣ Public Notice for 30 Days
The notice is displayed publicly for 30 days at the Registrar office.
During this time, anyone can raise an objection (if any).
3️⃣ Objection Handling (If Applicable)
If no valid objection is raised, the marriage moves ahead.
If an objection is raised, Registrar will conduct an inquiry.
4️⃣ Marriage Ceremony & Registration
After 30 days, the couple must appear with 3 witnesses for the marriage ceremony in the Registrar’s office.
Then, a Marriage Certificate is issued.
